The Walking Dead Episode Breakdown: Season 4 Episode 9 After

The wait is finally over! The mid season premier of The Walking Dead happened last night and it was a great episode. If you missed it you may not want to read on because this post will be absolutely spoiler filled. If you don't care then be my guest!...

The season 4 mid season finale left us with some unanswered questions. Who survived? Where did the scattered members of the group end up? Will they reunite? Is the Gov-Phillip-Brian really dead? Is my tongue still blue from Ocean Water? Wait..What?.. Let's get back on track here. After a huge battle at the prison we didn't really know what was to come from that point and how exactly it would play out. At least I didn't. So let's breakdown Sunday nights episode.

After began right where things left off. Walkers were lurking the prison grounds as the smoke was still settling from the battle. We get glimpses of the destruction as well as a glimpse of the Governor's lifeless body YAY! hopefully they don't plan on pulling a fast one on us and have him eventually pop up shouting SIKE! that would be unfortunate.. We start off seeing my bestie, Michonne still walking around the prison trying to find the others. She ends up coming across an undead, very hungry, and of course decapitated head belonging to our fallen friend Hershel which was both heartbreaking and exciting.

This episode mainly focused on Corrrl! - I mean Carl and Michonne, Rick was around but, spent a good chunk of the episode passed out from his beat down the Gov served him in the previous episode. I was so incredibly stoked that we finally got a glimpse into Michonne's life pre-outbreak. It was awesome the way they handled it. Rather than giving us a standard flashback we got to see a twisted dream she was having and even learned that she had a son, and the two pets she had when first introduced were her "lover" and his friend. It was great to get to see what traumatic events lead to her being so closed and stand offish. Speaking of pets we got to see Michonne make a pair of new ones out of a few of the Governor's guys. We saw some growth from Michonne in this episode she looked as if she was ready to give up when she gained back her strength and slaughtered a large herd in her true badass, katana slashing fashion.

Rick and Carl found sanctuary in a house after wandering down the road. Rick ends up sleeping for what is assumed 24 hours but, before he does of course the always respectful and chipper Carl told him off and as if losing Judith wasn't enough pain for Rick, Carl even bringing up Shane for that extra knife twist. How sweet. I have never been a fan of Carl but, I must admit I did appreciate his growth and turn around in this episode. He started of his normally bratty self, and after luring some walkers away from their safe house he decided to tell off a passed out Rick once again.. gloating about killing those walkers, blaming him for the loss of everyone, screaming that he couldn't protect anyone and the cherry on top... tells his father that he wouldn't care if he died because, he doesn't need him anymore. Such an angel this kid is. Carl did however, step up and went on a run for more food and had a cute scene where he enjoyed himself a gallon of chocolate pudding. He returned to the house where Rick shows off a rather convincing walker impression. Carl is about to shoot him but, can't when he realizes that if he did, he would be truly alone and turns his head to allow "walker Rick" snack on him. It was nice to see Carl admit that he does need his father and drop the tough guy act I really hope the character keeps these traits.

Rick comes to and the next morning we see him and Carl enjoying a meal together and being sweet to each other. Michonne tracks a trail of foot steps down the road and eventually ends up at the doorstep of the house Rick and Carl are holding up in. The episode ends with a heart warming moment. A huge smile comes across Michonne's face, she is truly ecstatic to see some familiar faces. She knocks on the door and Rick turns to Carl and says "It's for you".

I am really stoked to see where the rest of this season goes and I can't wait to find out just how crazy things are going to get for our characters. I'll be doing these episode breakdown posts weekly so check back to get my thoughts and let me know your opinions by leaving a comment below. Thanks for reading!

XOXO,
Bianca Isabelle
